The Walking Dead: 8 Songs That Really Set The Mood

5. 'Warm Shadow' - Fink

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dM3KQCWHkg Season 3, Episode 13 - Arrow on the Doorpost Often regarded as one of the weaker episodes of the series, Arrow on the Doorpost was a whole lot of talking and not a lot else. Protagonist Rick finally comes face to face with the evil despot The Governor, who is threatening his quaint little prison. Admittedly, Rick's group are doing their fair share of biting back. During the episode, The Governor strikes a sinister deal with Rick - hand over Michonne, the woman who took his eye and undead daughter from him, and he'll back off. The audience of course is well aware that The Governor is not a man to be trusted, bu it still leaves Rick with a decision to make and hefty burden on his shoulders. The genius of this scenario is that the episode takes place directly after 'Clear', where Michonne establishes herself as a firm friend and ally of the prison and the Grimes family especially. Both parties return to their respective camps exactly as we knew they would. The Governor threatens war with the prison, claiming he'll kill them all, despite the deal. Meanwhile, Rick too threatens war - he's not going to give up Michonne. That's where 'Warm Shadow' comes in. Its tranquil tones set the stage for an intense finale, being built up to from both sides. It's very much the calm before the storm and the song really sets that mood. It's fast-paced enough to be suited to both sides gearing up, yet it isn't a full-blown explosion. The war, and the bloodshed, is coming, but it hasn't started yet. The mention of 'day break' throughout the song is especially poignant, as that is exactly what both sides are waiting for. The day to break. Not literally of course, but they both know what draws near.
