WandaVision: Ranking The Show's Six Sitcom Eras
2. 1950s - The Dick Van Dyke Show
WandaVision's first episode was an homage to classic sitcom The Dick Van Dyke show.
Right from the opening sequence, the episode nails the innocent humour of the fifties perfectly, as newlyweds Wanda and Vision face confusion over a date marked on their calendar.
While Wanda comes to believe the date represents their anniversary, Vision discovers that it was actually a reminder that his new boss was coming to dinner. The misunderstanding results in a new set of mishaps. Wanda first dresses inappropriately in front of Mr. Hart, having been expecting Vision home for their supposed anniversary, and then struggles to pull together a dinner in time for her husband to impress his boss.
The episode was filmed in black and white in front of a live audience, and the crew were committed to using old fashioned, practical effects rather than CGI for Wanda's magic.
The team once spent hours attempting to get a dish rag on a string to dry a plate. This proves how serious the show was about getting the eras right.
