Westworld: 10 Biggest Twists - Ranked Worst To Best

8. Lawrence Is El Lazo

Westworld Bernard
HBO

Episode: 5 - Contrapasso

Shock Factor: 2/5 bullets

It was one of the first real hints that we were working on multiple timelines, but the reveal that Man in Black's right-hand man was actually the criminally corrupt El Lazo could have been a great one. For the first five episodes, we had come to know/feel sorry for Lawrence the bandit. Looking back, anyone with a brain should have been able to spot the similarities in name between El Lazo and Lawrence, but right up to his reveal, viewers were left stumped.

The close-up camera angle, complete with tipped hat covering his face, it was pure cheesy villain reveal. Admittedly Lawrence was much better as El Lazo than being strung up from a tree and left to bleed out, but let's be honest, he was a pretty rubbish villain altogether. Had Lawrence or El Lazo been more influential in the final third of the series then maybe it would have had more of an impact, but sadly Lawrence was left as just another aimless robot waiting to be shot at.
