5. Teddy Is A Robot

Westworld Bernard
HBO

Episode: 1 - The Original

Shock Factor: 3/5 bullets

"Hooray, James Marsden is back, hopefully he won't do a Cyclops and be killed off...oh, wait." With X-Men alumni James Marsden announced as a key player in Westworld, we were sadly wrong to assume that he would be one of the guests. Seeing the opening shot of him riding into Sweetwater on the train we still thought he was one of us and the hero of the show.

However, the close of the pilot episode tipped the entire premise of the show on its head, and it wasn't long before Teddy was leaking from a swiss-cheese full of bullet holes. Having one of the main characters outed as silicon and circuits so early set the precedent for the rest of the series. From the pilot onward, the audience was always looking for who could be the next robot hiding in the human pack. It was so simple and so effective, while it also meant that week after week Teddy was gunned down only to be reborn the week after
