Westworld: 9 Mysteries That Season 2 Must Resolve
1. Was That Ford Or A Host?
Give the great Sir Anthony Hopkins the Emmy now. His role as Westworld co-creator Dr. Robert Ford has been one of the best performances of his storied career. He has dazzled in the role in every carefully uttered, nuanced word. Stolen every scene.
Now, the only problem is that Ford is dead.
Or is he? Did Ford pull a switcheroo?
We know this: Ford, in the end, turned out to be a hero, of sorts. Despite being chillingly deceitful and perfectly willing to commit murder to reach his goals, Ford came to understand the importance of the hosts: that they were, in fact, sentient beings, or at least had the potential to be.
Perhaps it was Ford's ego, or God complex. In order to truly be God, after all, he needed to create life. So, picking up where Arnold left off, he did just that, understanding that suffering was what would truly wake the hosts up.
He also knew a sacrifice would be required. That his "children" would lash out at the hand that created them, and in doing so caused them so much misery. So he took his place on stage, allowing himself to be struck down by Delores.
Yet there's a popular theory that it wasn't Ford. He had, after all, the ability to create hosts. He created Bernard in Arnold's image. Perhaps he created a host-version of himself? Albeit just a theory, we need to know one way or the other whether Ford/Hopkins are gone from Westworld for good.
