Westworld: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
3. Robert Ford
"The hosts are the ones who are free. Free, here, under my control."
That line wonderfully encapsulates Dr. Robert Ford, the brilliant, intimidating, and cunning creator of Westworld, perfectly portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins. Able to shift from charming to frightening on a dime, Hopkins makes Ford unpredictable and he continually kept the audience guessing.
Ford is not a man to be trifled with, and that is made clear throughout the season. His chilling conversation with Theresa reveals his god complex and, but it isn't until he has her killed that we realize just how far he'll go to retain control of the park.
But is his need for authority simply megalomaniacal, or does he have ulterior motives? For the majority of the season it feels that Robert is only acting out of self interest, as he disapproved of Arnold's pro-host beliefs, but in the finale we learn that Ford has actually changed his mind and now sides with the hosts.
It's an unexpected twist, but is it genuine? None of Ford's actions over the course of these ten episodes suggests any host sympathies.
So was Ford always siding with the hosts, or did he lie in order to remove the Delos board and remain in control of his creations? Was he actually killed or did Dolores shoot a host? Only time will tell...
