Westworld Review: 10 Non-Spoiler Reasons It's HBO's Next Big Thing

9. Gunfights Are Great Fun

When those aforementioned bigger moments do arrive, it's typically in the form of a gunfight. This is the Wild West, after all. Much like a swordfight might occur in Thrones, here it's characters duelling, or just going on a bit of a shooting frenzy.

With so much dialogue, it's good to have these scenes to break things up a bit, and the action helps drive the episode's forward, providing plenty of thrills and gasps.

The premise of the show and the way the theme park works adds an extra veneer to these battles, involving who can and can't be hurt, and it has a great old West feel to it: whether it's a band of outlaws blasting apart a watering hole, or the dashing hero saving the girl, it both utilises and subverts the standard Western tropes - and gives us some great action in doing so.
