Westworld Season 1: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Chestnut'

1. Lee Is Still Super Dull

Westworld Lee
HBO

The worst character on Westworld right now is Lee Sizemore, the park's narrative director. For a man whose job it is to come up with the creative element of the theme park, he's rather bloody dull. The scenes between him and Theresa are the weakest, lacking any real charisma or excitement, but he's probably the slightly bigger problem of the two.

The character is a bit of a w**ker, which would be fine if he had even a hint of personality to go with it, but there's more life in the robots. It might be an issue with the writing, but Sam Quarterman just comes off as being really wooden. A highlight of this episode is when Dr Ford tears apart his idea for a new story, which Hopkins does really well. Now, it's one thing to be out-acted by such a great actor, but there's nothing in Lee's response - or indeed his pitch - to suggest he's going to be interesting going forwards. Unless he turns out to be a robot, anyway.
