Westworld Season 2: 10 Biggest Twists, Theories & Questions From 'Journey Into Night'

1. What Happened With Bernard And The Hosts?

The end of the episode brings the discovery of not just the sea, but a sea filled with dead hosts. Even more shockingly, Bernard announces that he killed them.

One reading of this is the most 'straightforward': we get a quick-flash of Bernard with a machine-gun, so it could be that he himself does gun down all of these hosts, although even then there's the question of why, and whether it was under his own control or in service of someone/thing else (i.e. Dolores).

Alternatively, this could be the work of Dolores, who is gunning down hosts at will and determined to make it to the "valley beyond", and this could be the location we're seeing here. It would then mean that Bernard has been programmed to think he's killed all of them, but in actuality hasn't. This could also be attributed to his critical condition, and the way he and Dolores have a strange impact on each other. We also don't know if this is the same scene that Arnold mentions at the beginning of the episode, nor quite how much Bernard's memories - which make him serve a similar function to Dolores in Season 1 - matter here.

Another theory posits that the hosts aren't even dead, because we can never take anything for granted here.

Whatever happened, it seems clear that this moment - which includes the death of Teddy - is going to be a huge part of Season 2, and we should be seeing the build-up towards it happening.
