Westworld Season 2 Finale: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

9. The Door Leads To The Valley Beyond

We've seen the search for the Door through the eyes of a number of different people - best of all Akecheta in episode 8 - and now we know what it is.

The Door, which is reached through the Forge, leads to the great Valley Beyond, although it is, of course, a little more complicated than that. The Door isn't a true physical thing, as the humans themselves can't see it, but instead appears to the hosts as a digital pathway for their consciousness (or code) to pass through to.

The Valley Beyond, then, is a place where the hosts can be free from humans, a vast expanse they can build in their own image, which becomes known as the Sublime. It's to this magical place that many of the hosts make it, including Akecheta and Maeve's daughter, before Dolores - who initially wanted to destroy it - changes its co-ordinates, sending the realm off into a space only she knows the location of.
