Westworld Season 2 Premiere: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Journey Into Night'

6. Maeve And Lee's Unlikely Double Act

Westworld Maeve
HBO

Maeve, who is now acting of her own free will, is completely focused on finding her daughter (who may or may not even exist), for which she recruits the help of the unwitting Lee Sizemore.

Thandie Newton's Maeve was pretty great in Season 1, but now that she has her own agency for real she's even better: her quick wit and endless charisma make her one of the most enjoyable characters to spend to with, and that works wonders for Lee too.

He was perhaps the worst character in Season 1, but now that his confidence (and in one scene, clothes) has been stripped away there's more humour to be found in the character, and the way he's dragged along on Maeve's adventure makes for a great double act that allows the show to have some fun. The first season was extremely po-faced and self-serious, but here there's even time for some anatomical jokes at his expense and a bit of silliness creeps in, which is a refreshing change of pace.
