Westworld Season 2 Review: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To The First Five Episodes

1. It's Even Better Than Season 1

At least through the opening five episodes, Westworld Season 2 is an improvement over the first. While that had a spectacular pilot, the following episodes were shiny and violent but rang a little hollow, before coming back around for its stellar run-in.

The opening episode of this year isn't as strong, but it builds momentum with each episode and manages to have both a faster pace and better character development, while still laying the groundwork for even bigger things to come. Especially in episodes four and five the show is really cooking on gas, and towards the end of this run there's a chance for the series to really go off in some different and hugely exciting directions.

It still has some of Season 1's issues, but overall the storytelling feels more organic, the violence and nudity likewise (though some of it is gratuitous, because it's still HBO), and more like it's telling a story than playing a game with us. Westworld Season 2 is even more violent, even more delightful, and it's only just beginning.
