In The Comics

Matt Murdock was a young boy who, while saving a blind man from an oncoming truck, had a radioisotope strike him in the eyes. Now blind, Matt soon realized that the rest of his senses were heightened to superhuman levels. After his father Jack Murdock, a boxer, was killed by a shady promoter, he sought revenge. And thus, his life as a vigilante began.

An adult Matt Murdock would become a successful lawyer while moonlighting as a masked hero known as Daredevil (a reference to the other kids making fun of his apparent cowardice as a child), wearing numerous outfits in such colors as yellow, black, and the most iconic, red.

In The Show

Like his fellow Defenders, Matt's origin story is kept intact on Netflix for the most part, with a few subtle differences. He also one of the key players in the show's narrative, on account of his prior experience with The Hand and his relationship with the formerly-deceased Elektra.

The reason he tops this list, however, is that Netflix's Matt Murdock represents the perfect way to adapt a comic book character in live-action, with just the right amount of loyalty to the source material (i.e. his iconic red costume) and the right amount of creative liberties taken (i.e. the suit being given proper armor for practicality). And, save for the fact that the original Matt was clean shaven and had red hair, Charlie Cox genuinely looks like the perfect choice to bring the character to life.
