If you haven't noticed it by now, a lot of the voice actors bear a resemblance to their characters, and Wendy Schaal is no exception. Before her time as the upbeat Francine Smith, Schaal had acted in a variety of tv series' and films, some going as far back as the mid 1970s.
Predominantly, she starred in many Joe Dante films, including Innerspace, The 'Burbs and Small Soldiers. Additionally, Schaal had numerous television roles throughout the 1980s and 1990s, making appearances in Little House on the Prairie, Happy Days, Friends and The X Files.
Since landing the role of Francine in American Dad in 2005, Wendy turned her hand away from television roles and has been committed to voice work for the American Dad/Family Guy universe.
Her character - Francine Smith - is often the voice of reason within the show and the one who is generally accepting and loving of all her family. However, Francine has an unhinged, dark side which rivals the one of her husband - frequently shoplifting, casual violence and allegedly stabbing her college roommate to death.
