Why The Big Bang Theory Just Got Cancelled

4. It Has Nowhere Left To Go

Few sitcoms make it to Season 12, and it's even rarer that you'll find one still as creatively fresh by that time as its earlier years, and The Big Bang Theory is no exception.

It's already run the full gamut of most sitcom plot points, concluding with the wedding of Sheldon and Amy in Season 11, which itself was an ending for one of the series' longest-running and biggest storylines.

The characters have evolved, to varying degrees, and been through big changes in their lives, and while there are still some directions to go in for Season 12 - such as a pregnancy, or characters finally moving out of the apartment (a common ending trope for everything from Friends to New Girl) - there's nothing to sustain multiple seasons now.
