5. The Setting
Set in the suburban city of Rancho Cucamonga, California (which the internet assures me is a real place) Workaholics is a look at the life of three college dropouts working for a telemarketing firm called Telamericorp. As their home city is relatively small compared to the usual settings employed by US comedies (New York's usually a safe bet) but this gives more character to the show and allows it to be more laid back. Most of the action within the show takes place either at their house, which is typically in a state of disrepair, or at the office in which they spend their days pretending to work. These environments provide the basis for events which make this slacker comedy a joy to watch, whether they're messing with their co-workers or throwing parties. Although these primary settings will become very familiar to viewers, numerous episodes venture beyond as the series progresses allowing the guys to cause havoc all over the city and surrounding countryside. This balance between work and home life is integral to the narrative of Workaholics although by no means the only thing looked at.
