Brienne's storyline, even by admission of actress Gwendoline Christie, didn't really do much to serve the character in Season 5. At last year's San Diego Comic-Con, she responded to a mention of her leaving her post at the exact wrong moment with: "What can I say? I had to stand for three months watching a window to wait for a candle. Give me a break."

She did get a break at the end of Season 5, when she killed Stannis Baratheon (and yes, he is dead), but quite where her story goes from here isn't certain, especially given the major deviations from the book and the lack of a rather notable Lady.

With Ian McShane likely to be playing an amalgamation of Septon Meribald and Elder Brother, there is a possibility of her circling back around to some of her book plot points, although a more likely possibility - at least starting off - is that she'll attempt to find the escaping Sansa.

Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick, told IGN that Season 6 will find the pair "essentially in the same place - not geographically, but in the same place as we started in season 5, where they're still trying to do what she said she was going to do."

So, although she'll still be attempting to find the Stark girls, we can at least expect something a bit different, and hopefully more for Christie to do. And if we get that long-awaited reunion between Brienne and Jaime then all the better.
