Young Justice: Outsiders - 4 Ups & 2 Downs From Episodes 7-9

1. More Than Friends?

Young Justice Artemis Roy
DC Universe

The most unexpected moment of this week's adventures didn't come from one of the major confrontations. Instead, it came from a parental gathering when Roy Harper (the cloned version that now goes by "Will") was quizzed about his feelings for sister-in-law Artemis - his daughter's aunt and the woman he shares a house with. Roy dismissed the possibility of a relationship between the pair, but it was pretty clear that his own face didn't agree.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the idea of a romantic relationship between Artemis and Roy would be a very bad idea. That's not as to say that they haven't had great chemistry over the years, because they did share an excellent dynamic during the first season when Roy was accusing her of being the traitor within. But this does not mean that they should be automatically put together as a couple.

Artemis' relationship with Wally West became such a focal point of the show that it became impossible to imagine her with anyone else. They entranced viewers as they evolved from moody teenagers who "hated" each other into a loving mature couple, before Wally's controversial death. On that note, it's the ambiguity of that death that has kept us hanging on for his ultimate return and, anything other than that, especially a relationship between Artemis and Roy, could just never compare.
