Young Justice: Outsiders - 6 Major Questions After The First Three Episodes

3. Why Are Dick And Oracle Being So Secretive?

Young Justice Outsiders 1
DC Universe

As Oracle, Barbara's voice was featured quite regularly as she guided Dick through his missions. Obviously with the former Nightwing still in the midst of his temporary hiatus from the team, he needed back-up - something she provided expertly over his headset.

However, when he reunited with former teammates Artemis, Superboy and Black Lightning, he didn't mention Oracle to any of them. While we didn't even notice it at first, the writers went out of their way to make us notice it, as Barbara continued to send secret messages to Dick via his eye-lense, excluding the team from the pair's conversation. Moreover, when he wasn't fully paying attention during his conversation with Artemis (as he was reading Barbara's messages), Dick didn't reveal why he was distracted.

Babs would continue to help only him throughout the remainder of the premiere, as Dick would then relay any helpful information to his team without referring to Oracle - and all of this leaves us confused as to why the pair aren't revealing that they are working together?

Perhaps they are in a secret relationship (Dick did tease her over her concern) or maybe Barbara had been forbidden from helping in the fight against crime if The Joker did injure her. However, one thing is for sure, the writers used Dick's distraction because they wanted us to notice that he wasn't being honest with the team about her involvement. So, one way or another, there is definitely more going on here than we know about.
