Young Sheldon: 10 Big Bang Theory Inconsistencies
7. Life Lessons Forgotten
When a show runs for as long as The Big Bang Theory you don’t want the characters to stay exactly the same forever. That’s why when we meet Sheldon at the start of season one he’s at his most brittle and uncompromising. Gradually over the course of twelve seasons his friendships and later his romance with Amy Farrah Fowler cause him to soften and become more reasonable.
The trouble is, little Sheldon is also learning life lessons and growing as a person as Young Sheldon continues. So why is he so unreasonable again in early adulthood? Has he forgotten every life lesson from his schooldays?
To give an example, in season five Sheldon and Dr Linkletter get stuck solving a physics equation. Sheldon thinks Dr Sturgis could help but because of an ongoing rivalry between the pair Dr Linkletter doesn’t want to reach out.
In the end Sheldon decides to ask Mr Sturgis anyway because he thought it was worth working with people you disagree with if you’re all part of “team science.” Sure enough, the equation is solved when the scientists work together, so you’d think Sheldon would carry this lesson into adulthood.
Instead he refuses to work with Barry Kripke, only works with his friend Raj if he can treat him like an employee and even struggles to work successfully with Amy at times.
