10 Biggest Heat Generators In UFC History
5. Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is a fan favorite fighter, and easily the biggest star the sport has ever had. He’s brought a vast audience and mainstream attention to the UFC for years. Audiences fell in love with McGregor’s verbal assaults of his opponents and brash behavior. Just go back and watch the Conor McGregor press conference with Jose Aldo in Dublin. When McGregor reached over and stole Aldo’s title belt, the crowd went absolutely nuts. Needless to say, McGregor is one of (if not the) most popular fighters in UFC history. However, he has generated his fair share of heat, especially in recent months.
Conor has made many controversial statements in the past, including even racial comments towards Floyd Mayweather. However, besides those comments, all of this was fair game for fans and ultimately made Conor a bigger star.
Most of (if not all) his heat comes from his rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov and his downward spiral since UFC 223. What started with a bus attack that left multiple fighters injured and unable to fight come UFC 223, since McGregor’s actions have only continually painted him in a negative light. He has had multiple other arrests on top of his bus attack, and many fans believed McGregor continually stepped over lines as he took aim at Khabib’s family, country, and religion. On top of this, the trash talk between McGregor and Khabib has only gotten worse since their first fight. Even to the point where the most die hard McGregor fan boy would have to take a step back and reconsider their fandom.
As of right now McGregor has seemingly chilled on his negative behavior, and the millions of McGregor fans world wide can only hope it stays that way.
