10 Former MMA Stars Who Have Surprisingly Normal Jobs

6. Shane Carwin - Engineer

Though many of the fighters featured on this list didn't find their way into normal employment until after their careers had ended, Shane Carwin continued his work as an engineer all the way through his tenure in the UFC.

During his six years as a professional fighter, Carwin was one of the most feared men in the history of the UFC thanks to his solid boxing and frightening one-punch knockout power.

Carwin won the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship without ever having had a fight leave the first round when he overwhelmed Frank Mir in 2010.

After winning the belt, Carwin came close to unifying the heavyweight titles in a bout with Brock Lesnar but ultimately lost his next two fights before retiring in 2013 after struggling with several persistent injuries.

Carwin has stated in the years since that his injuries have healed and that he would like to compete again but despite negotiations with both Bellator and RIZIN he has yet to return to fighting.

According to his Linkedin account, Carwin now serves as an engineer at QES Directional Drilling in Texas.
