10 Times Feet Were Better Than Fists Inside Of The Octagon

7. Conor McGregor Vs. Donald Cerrone (UFC 246)

Knockouts can happen at any time in a fight.

But, you knew that already.

As referenced in our last entry, they can come when both fighters are completely drained at the end of a contest. However, sometimes they can arrive so early in a battle that you are forced to pinch yourself to make sure that what you just saw wasn't just the result of a hopeful daydream.

If this flash knockout/TKO comes off the back of a perfectly timed hook/straight/uppercut, it can leave the audience in a state of stunned silence. But, if it comes from a truly frightening kick to the head, you can bet it will be talked about for generations to come.

That takes us nicely into UFC 246's main event, which saw the blue collar workhorse Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone taking on the returning 'Notorious' Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.

The narrative in the lead up to this clash centred around McGregor's greatest (and apparently sole) weapon being his venomous left fist. If Cerrone was to survive the encounter, he needed to make sure he could evade its inevitable usage.

However, McGregor is fond of surprises and instead of depending on his signature shot, he drove his shoulder into 'Cowboy's face, thus breaking it. This then forced the veteran to back up.

This space gave McGregor the opening to let loose a seismic head kick - not dissimilar to Cerrone's usual weapon of choice - and disprove any theories that he was a one-dimensional striker. With Cerrone downed, 'Mystic Mac' proceeded to pummel him and earned a TKO win. His left is legendary, but his foot was the killer this time round.
