10 UFC Fights That Did Not Go To Plan
5. Chris Weidman Breaks The Spider (UFC 162)
Anderson Silva won the UFC Middleweight title in 2006 and successfully defended his belt a whopping ten times. In short, 'The Spider' seemed unbeatable.
Rich Franklin, Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia and Vitor Belfort among others all tried to pry the Championship away from the elusive Brazilian and they all failed.
An undefeated Chris Weidman was next up for the champ at UFC 162, but fans still felt that the mighty Silva would be too much for the New York native on the night.
True to form, Silva ducked and weaved his way through the first round, but things took an unexpected turn in the second.
Weidman opted to stand and trade with 'The Spider', a decision which usually led to Silva landing one of his signature unorthodox KO blows. This time, though, the challenger caught Silva on the back foot and landed a left hand which knocked the legend off his feet.
Against the odds, Weidman beat Silva into the mat and became the new UFC Middleweight Champion after standing and trading with one of the best strikers in the history of the combat sport.
Nothing lasts forever, but nobody in the company expected Silva's reign to end so suddenly on that night in 2013.
