For the longest time, it seemed like perennial contender Michael Bisping would never get to hold UFC gold. However, a resurgence late in his career would see The Count overcome all the doubters by capturing the UFC Middleweight Championship in dramatic fashion against arch-rival Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.

What made Bisping's title run quite so unexpected though, was the fact that he had already suffered what many believed would prove to be a career-ending injury years earlier.

In a bout with Vitor Belfort in 2013, the Brit suffered a detached retina after being knocked out with a head kick in the second round. Bisping would later explain that he had suffered an almost total lack of vision in the eye ever since the fight, and would even have to go to great lengths to avoid revealing his poor sight during medical examinations.

In an episode of his Believe You Me podcast, Bisping would later reveal that he wears a prosthetic to cover his less-than-functional right eye.
