10 Doctor Who Deleted Scenes You Need To See
3. River Song's Wardrobe
It's safe to say that Alex Kingston's portrayal of River Song was a little on the spicy side. If her and Captain Jack were ever in the same room, the universe would probably explode.
But one scene from the show's sixth series turned out to be a bit too much, even by River's standards.
If you watch the 2010 Christmas special A Christmas Carol right to the end, you'll see a trailer for Series Six. In this trailer you'll see many shots that appeared in the full series, and a couple that didn't – one of them shows River in Stormcage winking at someone offscreen, and another shows a trio of German soldiers walking into a room.
The River scene was deleted from the opening episode The Impossible Astronaut, where River would be showing off her "bigger on the inside" wardrobe inside Stormcage. But in the end, Steven Moffat deemed the shot "too naughty", and the whole scene was removed from the final broadcast.
The shot of the German soldiers was also likely clipped from The Impossible Astronaut, which features an early scene of the Doctor tunnelling his way out of a prisoner of war camp during World War II.
These scenes have never been released in full, so the quick shots in that Coming Soon trailer are all we have. It's not unheard of for trailer shots to not make the final cut, and considering that the episode turned out to be an absolute banger, it clearly didn't hurt to take these moments out!
