1 Up & 6 Downs From WWE NXT UK (13 May)
Ups...
1. Nova Rollin' On
Noam Dar and Nathan Frazer’s opener was a hot bit of business. While a critic could easily say that all Heritage Cup Rules contests are one in the same, this one was a tad different.
It was crucial that Frazer got the first fall, but it was arguably more crucial that he gained it through a cheeky rollup. He’s the plucky underdog; he shouldn’t be winning the first fall with his finishing frog splash, especially not in the first fall anyway.
By having Nathan pick up the first fall, it set up the perfect trajectory for the remainder of the bout. Noam had to bite back. That he picked up the final two falls was enough to warrant this an Up as it told a decent story throughout the match, but it’s the way he executed this.
‘The Scottish Supernova’ was put off by losing the first fall to the point he demanded Sha Samuels come out to his corner. His in-ring style was entirely vicious; a genuinely jaw-shivering uppercut could have gained a pinfall in itself. The interference of Sha towards the end of the bout wasn’t needed with regards to the match, but it was needed to develop the characters of the Pinky Party lads. This was a hoot.
