10 Abandoned Wrestling Gimmicks That Would Have Been Awesome
8. JTG's Split Personality
Despite the frequently racist storylines JTG and Shad Gaspard were put in, Cryme Tyme managed to be pretty damn entertaining in the ring most weeks.
Though their talent outweighed their gimmick tenfold, it at least got the job done. But according to JTG, he had a much more engaging gimmick lined up for himself.
While participating in "promo classes" that Vince would have with some of the wrestlers before shows, JTG was called on to give a promo based on a random word.
He ended up cutting the promo with a split personality, talking to himself as much as to the camera. Vince evidently loved the idea, and they began developing the gimmick a little more.
JTG named the "second" character Self and came up with an idea to create a Muppet type of thing that looked exactly like him, and use that puppet as the vessel for his other personality. And only JTG and the fans could see and hear Self.
So if he was talking to a fellow superstar on camera, they would have no idea the Muppet was in the room.
JTG believed Self "was kind of like my conscience". It's certainly a unique idea that would have provided some thoroughly entertaining backstage antics, but apparently Vince got cold feet on the idea after the whole puppet thing was brought up.
