10 Abandoned Wrestling Gimmicks That Would Have Been Awesome
9. Seven
Even though the man portraying the character wasn't a big fan of the gimmick - according to his worked shoot during Seven's debut, anyway - there's no doubt that this character at least had some potential.
Granted, this was WCW during the Vince Russo era, so Dustin Runnels was probably right to have reservations about where this storyline might have led, but it was sinister and dark enough to have worked.
Reportedly based off a group of mysterious characters in the movie Dark City known as "The Strangers", Seven possessed mind powers that could allow him change people's personalities and replace their memories. And while that sounds pretty out there on paper, it's not as if modern WWE gimmicks haven't effectively portrayed brainwashing.
Vignettes showed him standing outside of a child's bedroom and touching hands with the boy through the window, beckoning him to "come to me and live forever". The boy then turned to the camera and revealed black demon eyes.
It was equal parts creepy and intriguing, but Turner Standards and Practices thought it invited too many comparisons to a child abductor and pulled the plug on the idea.
This ultimately led to the aforementioned worked shoot where Runnels compared the character to Uncle Fester, thus burying the gimmick on camera and ensuring that it wouldn't be brought back.
