10 Absolute Worst Gimmicks In Wrestling Today

1. RETRIBUTION

Even before the wacky names, RETRIBUTION was a bust. The influence behind the gimmick is as clear as day, a transparent bit of playground backchatting that is as poorly-constructed as it is childishly conceived. In short, Vince McMahon is a wealthy man who is too ignorant to understand why people around the world take to the streets to protest inequality and social injustice. Enter RETRIBUTION.

The group has some serious talent within its ranks. Mustafa Ali has long been considered one of the most misused performers on the roster, while Dominic Dijakovic has had no shortage of great matches in recent years. The same can be said of Mia Yim, and Shane Thorne has proven himself to be a more than reliable performer between the ropes. Dio Maddin is tall.

But no amount of talent will save this. The McMahon family is just about as far removed from the issues that people protest and RETRIBUTION is the result, an embarrassingly childish attempt at relevance, complete with logical issues and wacky camera shaking. The men and women in the group are tremendous performers, but there is no worse gimmick in the world of professional wrestling today.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
