10 AEW Originals Who Are Struggling In 2022
8. Peter Avalon
One of the weirdest chapters in AEW’s history was their decision to advertise for wrestlers to apply for a “Librarian” gimmick. For a promotion promising to embody the opposite values of WWE, this occupational gimmick was the most sports entertainment thing AEW ever did. Those who didn’t watch Being The Elite weren’t in on the joke and those who did?
Well, they kinda still thought it sucked.
The librarian was a woeful gimmick, and Peter Avalon was always going to struggle asking crowds to be quiet and hitting people with books whilst employing the most basic of heel tactics. That said, it must be galling to see Chad Gable find such success by shooshing WWE fans.
Avalon followed up in a race to the bottom feuding with Brandon Cutler to see who could score a win first before the pair eventually teamed up to zero success.
In contrast to most others on this list, Avalon never really enjoyed a honeymoon period with the promotion. His lame gimmick scuppered him from the very beginning. Now, having long since dismissed the Dewy Decimal System and rebranded as “Pretty” Peter Avalon, he still seems unlikely to reach new heights amid AEW’s swollen roster.
