10 AEW Stars Who Are Perfect For Ring Of Honor

With the rebirth of Ring of Honor, who could be set to continue the company's legacy?

That was fun, wasn’t it?

ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022 was an unmitigated success. It's been a long time since Ring of Honor has had this level of buzz, and coming off the back of a great night for Tony Khan's recent acquisition, it feels like the legendary promotion is on the cusp of something special.

It's unlikely that Ring of Honor will return to the trend-setting ways of having the likes of CM Punk, Samoa Joe, and Bryan Danielson cutting their teeth, but it's clear there is a space for the company to exist and role it can play almost as a feeder system into AEW.

When NXT was at its most effective, it helped usher in a number of top stars that still dominate the WWE to this day. Ever since Tony Khan acquired the company that clearly has a special place in his heart, it has felt more like a hindrance to his own attention and AEW's booking. But now, there is an opportunity to potentially move some names off of the overly stacked AEW roster and help them either develop or rebuild under the iconic ROH name.

This list won't include any of the current ROH Champions as we can take it as a given that they will be appearing. As for the names on this list, some of these could return to AEW a better act, or some of them could just find a place to call home.

10. Colt Cobana

Let’s start with the obvious one, and one that has already been heavily rumoured. Colt Cabana is indie wrestling royalty, and for some reason, it feels like not enough respect is put on the man’s name.

Whilst he has never ascended to the heights of other Ring of Honor alumni, Cabana spent numerous years associated with the company either side of his terrible run with the WWE. In fact, he even held the ROH Tag Team Championships twice with his former best friend, CM Punk.

Nowadays, Cabana is no more than an afterthought in the world of AEW, with the stacked roster and the dwindling interest in the Dark Order all but ending any chance he has of gaining attention. There is also some uneasy talk that the unresolved issues with CM Punk have also impacted his role.

Which is a shame, because Boom Boom is a wonderfully gifted performer, with bundles of charisma, likability and technical prowess. With the rebirth of Ring of Honor, Tony Khan would be wise to move Cabana across, and use him as a wildly respected gatekeeper, similar to the role Dustin Rhodes has performed admirably since AEW’s inception.

And, if somehow, down the line, he and CM Punk can bury the hatchet, there is one more nostalgia run staring them both right in the face.
