10 AEW Wrestlers Tony Khan Has Totally Wasted
7. Athena
It was hard to include Athena on this list, admittedly.
The final bit of build towards her All Out 2022 bout vs. Jade Cargill was excellent, and it is true that the one-time Ember Moon has way more personality than WWE ever let her show. However, she was still little more than cannon fodder for Cargill in the end, and nobody can deny that.
Think about the entire narrative Tony Khan produced here. Athena debuted at Double Or Nothing as a world class counterpoint to Jade's borderline-bullying ways; she stopped Cargill from wiping the floor with others in the women's division, and vowed to take the TBS Title from her.
Come the big match at All Out, Athena lost in just over four minutes. So much for that then, huh? She's just one of many women struggling to earn notable houseroom on major shows these days, and she's only been with the company less than four months.
