10 Amazing WWE SummerSlam Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

5. Triple H To Punish CM Punk For Walking Out On The Company - SummerSlam 2011

In 2011 CM Punk seemingly walked away from the WWE with the WWE Championship. However his relatively swift return allowed the WWE to pit Punk against newly crowned WWE Champion John Cena culminating in a match at SummerSlam to determine the Undisputed WWE Champion. However strange alternative SummerSlam plans existed that would have seen Punk return to the WWE, only to be physically assaulted by Triple H. At that point Money In The Bank holder Alberto Del Rio would cash in his WWE Championship contract to pin a defenceless Punk and steal the WWE Championship. Del Rio was then scheduled to feud with Cena at SummerSlam over the two disputed WWE Championship belts. Meanwhile Punk would then go on to feud with Triple H. It would be revealed that Triple H had resigned Punk to the WWE as a gesture to the fans but would now exact revenge against Punk on behalf of the WWE for walking away from the company with its most prized championship. Their rivalry was meant to set up a match that would take place at SummerSlam. Fortunately the whole idea was dropped, allowing Punk to wrestle Cena at SummerSlam rather than, in all likelihood, have to job to Triple H.
