10 Amazing Wrestling Callbacks You Totally Missed

2. Yes, Kenny Omega Really Is That Great

Kenny Omega is so otherworldly as a storyteller that he can use the callback even in a way that can elevate bad tropes.

The three-way/Triple Threat, with few exceptions, is largely a cop-out of a match designed to get another star on the marquee or put a body in there to beat. The match itself almost invariably suffers from the same logic gap: a wrestler sells for an eternity on the outside after taking a move to which they'd barely flinch in the context of a singles.

At Double Or Nothing 2021, Omega perfected this trope.

At All Out 2019, he lost to PAC in a shock result when, trapped in the Brutaliser, he lost consciousness. 18 months later, in a three-way that also involved Orange Cassidy, PAC struck again - but this time, Omega had learned a counter. He accelerated backwards in a panic, the momentum caused PAC to tumble out of the ring, and this allowed Omega and Orange to set up their sequence.

Yes, as is always the case, PAC did spend too long on the outside - but there has never been a more logical way of doing the illogical three-way format.
