10 Amazing Wrestling Feuds With AWFUL Endings

2. John Cena Vs. CM Punk (WWE)

The Summer of Punk went out not with a bang, but with a whimper, ending on a sledgehammer ladder match between Triple H and Kevin Nash.

After going full Deadpool and breaking the fourth wall, CM Punk was the most talked about star in the whole industry. His pipe bomb promos on John Cena and Mr McMahon were unlike anything WWE had done in years and the sky appeared to be the limit for the Second City Saint.

Marching into his hometown, Punk picked up Cena's title and ditched the company in an all-time great main event. So what next for the Straight Edge Saviour? Title defences in other promotions like he'd implied? Nope. Try returning eight days later for a convoluted double champ angle with Cena (speaking of which, was Cena ever more despicable than when he beat Rey Mysterio for the title the same night Mysterio won it?).

Punk then enjoyed a series of jobs to Cena, Alberto Del Rio, Triple H and even The Miz and R-Truth tandem, making him look like a real jabroni shortly after he'd rocked the house. For something so cool and provocative initially, Punk vs. Cena got anchored down in a whole lot of Kliq nonsense and wound up doing little to spice up the WWE the way most were hoping.
