10 Amazing WWE Debut Matches
4. John Cena (Smackdown 02)
Days after Vince McMahon ushered in the era of "Ruthless Aggression", one of its staple components made their official WWE debut. John Cena ditched the Prototype gimmick and answered Kurt Angle's open invitational challenge during the June 27th, 2002 edition of Smackdown.
Angle was taken aback by the confident rookie, asking why he thought he could compete with the best in the business. Ever fans of driving a point home, WWE had Cena reply "Ruthless Aggression" before unloading a barrage of right hands.
Cena surprised many with his strength and agility, more than keeping up with Angle during the initial exchanges. Pushing the former World Champion to his limits, Cena produced a number of agonisingly close near falls before ultimately falling to a creative roll up. Despite losing the contest, Cena had shown the audience and his colleagues that he had the hunger to be at the forefront of the new generation.
Whilst he has developed his fair share of detractors due mostly to factors beyond his control, Cena will always be known for having one of the most impressive debuts in history. His passion and determination was plain to see; looking back, you truly get the impression that you were watching a lifelong fan stepping up to live his dream.
