10 Amazing WWE Debut Matches
2. Kevin Owens (Elimination Chamber 2015)
Back on the main roster now, with an emphatic introduction to a superstar that sent shock waves throughout an entire company.
You could easily make the argument that this match against John Cena made Kevin Owens in the eyes of most WWE fans. Immediately pitting the NXT Champion against the biggest star in the company and icon of an entire generation, it solidified Owens' position as an established star.
The match further proves how truly underrated John Cena is by a large portion of the fan base. Expertly selling Owen's devastating power-moves and cut-offs with genuine emotion, he valiantly defended himself like an old lion challenged by a younger, hungrier rival.
Owens expertly drew in the crowd with minor yet essential flourishes. Gaining true heel heat, he played to the crowd, disrespected his opponent and tried to beat him with his own finishing move. These subtle additions turned a great match into something special, allowing the go home sequence to be met with gasps of excitement.
Few could have predicted Owens coming out on top; even after a final shattering Powerbomb, many simply expected Cena to kick out once more before rallying to a victory. The three count was met with shock, elation and curiosity - all things that are integral to wrestling at its best.
Owens was an instant star, NXT gained substantial notoriety, and Cena benefited from some welcome vulnerability.
A truly star-making performance, from which the ripples are still being felt today.
