Despite the initial turtle neck faux pas, the Shield rose to become the most dominant, divisive and down right effective stables of the modern era.

Fans had to wait a whole month to see the group wrestle their first match at TLC 2012. With anticipation (or curiosity) high, the trio squared off against the popular team of Hell No and Ryback. What followed was a candidate for Match of the Year with the bout being littered with breathtaking spots and well-paced psychology.

Like a pack of wolves, The Shield used the numbers game to their advantage, isolating their opponents before taking each one out with a devastating manoeuvre. The contest was far from one sided, with Ryback looking particularly strong and only falling when outnumbered. Kane and Bryan allowed the fans to invest in the likeable and sympathetic babyface team.

For twenty plus minutes, the teams utilised the environment, took advantage of weapons and delivered a TLC match that felt like a nonstop war as opposed to a confrontation with a tacked on stipulation. Every competitor deserves credit, but The Shield proved that they were far from a passing fad and had the potential to become mainstays in the main event scene.

Fast forward a couple of years, and each member had held a major World title.
