10 Amazing WWE World Title Wins (That Led To Lame Championship Runs)
3. Bray Wyatt
Why does WWE hate Bray Wyatt so? Time and again, the inventive wrestler has come up with great, or at least unique, ideas, only to have his legs cut out from under him. Indeed if he’s not the hot commodity he should be, it’s mostly down to bungled booking.
It’s such a mess that you can forget how over he’s been at times. Wyatt’s first WWE Championship win, at Elimination Chamber 2017, was huge news. He won a seriously good titular match over heavyweights like AJ Styles and John Cena, who had only recently nabbed the belt himself. It should have been a breath of fresh air, the crowning of a new top monster.
Enter Randy Orton. Whoever keeps pitching these two as ideal opponents needs to pipe down, because it didn’t work at WrestleMania 37 and it certainly didn’t work at 33. At least this year, there weren’t any maggots broadcast onto the mat.
Bray held the belt for under two months, and successfully defended it at zero pay per views. There’s an argument to be made that his character really doesn’t need a title, but he shouldn’t have to make that argument himself on live telly.
