10 Amazing WWE World Title Wins (That Led To Lame Championship Runs)

4. Eddie Guerrero

A pedigree talent and one of the most charismatic wrestlers ever to work a crowd, were it not for his relatively diminutive stature, Guerrero would surely have been world champ many times over. As it was, his singular WWE Championship run encapsulated some dizzying highs, but was mostly a bit of a damp squib.

The win itself was the stuff of magic, combining Eddie’s plucky underdog spirit in tangling with a beast the size of Brock Lesnar, and his opportunistic lying, cheating, and stealing, utilising a Goldberg spear and a DDT on the belt to win the prize. It was a glorious moment, still one of the feel-good pops of the ‘00s.

His defence against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania was great fun, but that was about as good as it got. He’d soon drop the belt to JBL of all people, after a couple of middling matches including a truly disgusting bloodbath at Great American Bash.

Guerrero himself requested to relinquish the title, his body wracked with pain and his head not in the right place. He had tragically little time left at this point; still, that win at No Way Out is as good as any.
