10 Amazing WWE WrestleMania 41 Stats, Facts & Figures
1. Iyo Breaks New Ground
It’s only fitting that the incredible triple-threat opener from WrestleMania Sunday made history in addition to immediately vaulting into the conversation of greatest 'Mania openers ever.
Iyo Sky successfully defended her Women’s World Championship against Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley. In doing so, Iyo became the first Japanese female wrestler to win a match at WrestleMania. She was also the first Japanese superstar to win a WrestleMania match (on the main card) in 27 years, when Taka Michinoku defended his Light Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 14 against Aguila.
That says a lot about a lot of things. Asuka is 0-5 at WrestleMania. Iyo lost her previous two 'Mania matches. And Kairi Sane has lost both of her matches at WrestleMania. Even Shinsuke Nakamura has never won at WrestleMania.
While a celebratory moment, let’s hope it isn’t 27 years before the next Japanese WWE superstar gets to enjoy a WrestleMania win.
