10 Attitude Era Elements WWE Must Copy Today
3. Build A Meaningful Midcard
The Attitude Era possessed countless memorable characters, many of which were not main eventers by an means. They were characters with specific, but varied, traits that appealed to any number of fans.
There was the adult film star Val Venis, the enigmatic Goldust, the no-nonsense fighting machine Steve Blackman and the delusional Holly cousins who considered themselves super-heavyweights despite being decidedly not.
Every character on the show had a place and a story. Even when they were not utilized in any major angle, fans could still choose to get behind them because they could relate to them in some form or fashion.
That is nonexistent in today's WWE.
Too often, the only characteristic most midcard talents have today is "he's a good wrestler". That, or he's celebrated for "his tremendous athleticism." There is no further development or evolution. Guys may wear corny or cheesy outfits but their look does not, in any measurable way, define their character.
The complete lack of meaningful midcard stars has created a great void between the main event stars that receive all of the attention and everyone else on the show, who struggle to get over because fans have no real reason to care about any of them.
