10 Attitude Era Feuds Bret Hart Missed Out On

8. William Regal

William Regal once said that his dream match in all of professional wrestling would be against Bret Hart. It's easy to see why; Hart's matches with The British Bulldog, his own brother-in-law, are legendary, even headlining a Summerslam together in 1992 at Wembley Stadium. It remains the only Summerslam to take place in the UK, and is one of the largest events the company ever held, with over 80,000 people cramming in to the iconic London venue. Regal shares many similarities with the Bulldog; they're both from Lancashire, they're the only Europeans to ever hold the WWE European Title, they both flitted between WCW and WWE during the '90s, and both men are frequently regarded as two of the best wrestlers to have never won the WWE Championship. Unfortunate as it is, both men never managed to get a run at the top. This kind of frustration could easily have seen Regal take out his frustrations on an established legend in Bret Hart, someone who was born into a wrestling family and was able to get a leg up from there. Regal could argue that he was the hardest worker in the business, but still wasn't being afforded the chances he deserved, unlike Hart. Whether or not this could've catapulted Regal remains to be seen. He was thrust into a push in 2008 when he won the King of the Ring tournament and was also made the General Manager of Raw, but a violation of the WWE's Wellness Policy saw him suspended for a couple of months. He returned to relative mid-card status once more. However, one of Bret Hart's biggest rivals in Shawn Michaels also had drug problems once upon a time, and their feud helped elevate both men into bona-fide legend territory. Who knows how Regal would've shaped up against the Hitman.
