10 Awesome Moments From The WWE Invasion
4. Extreme Intervention
"Feel it JR! Feel this moment for the rest of your life."
Those immortal words of Paul Heyman as he stepped up from his position at the commentary table still send shivers down this writer's spine.
Despite ECW becoming a Kangol hat wearing Stephanie McMahon's plaything and amounting to nothing but a damp squib, this is one of the most memorable moments of the entire Invasion storyline.
On the 9th July, Kane and Chris Jericho were facing off against WCW stars, Lance Storm and Mike Awesome. In a fairly middling affair, the WWE stars were suddenly set upon by Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam. These ECW rogues joined with the WCW guys to start laying a beating.
Enter the heroic WWE stars who were coming to save the day, staring down the enemy on the other side of the ring. But then, as they turned to set their sights on Kane and Jericho, the penny dropped.
The cavalry was consisted of The Dudley Boyz, Tazz, Raven, Rhyno and Justin Credible. Along with the four other men in the ring, they were all pillars of ECW's legacy. The moment was one of the genuine shocks of the Invasion and despite being merged into an ugly, McMahon-led mess, never had ECW felt more like one of the major companies than at this moment.
