10 Awesome Things You Don't Remember About WWE's Attitude Era

1. Brawl-For-All

There have been few clusterfumbles as long and protracted as WWE's Brawl-For-All tournament in 1998. The story goes that Bradshaw pitched the idea of a hardcore division to Vince Russo before WWF had one, but Vince Russo instead decided to run with the idea of a legitimate fighting division that was strictly voluntary. The tournament was allegedly a vehicle to introduce "Dr. Death" Steve Williams to the WWF audience and have him come out a huge star, but that didn't turn out so well. He was defeated by Bart Gunn in the second round by KO, and Gunn would eventually win the whole tournament. Bob Holly has since claimed that Williams was paid the $100,000 prize money in advance, and Bart Gunn's boxing match with professional boxer Butterbean was a punishment for beating Williams. They weren't the only complications with the Brawl-For-All tournament. Fans hated it, and made sure to let WWF know. Also, as many of the competitors were not trained fighters, injuries were a serious hazard and Steve Blackman, Savio Vega and Road Warrior Hawk were all injured during the competition. When it was all said and done, WWF came out of Brawl-For-All with less than they went in with. Several wrestlers were injured, their star pick was knocked out and they failed to capitalise on any star potential Bart Gunn may have had coming out of it. While many of the examples on this list shouldn't be forgotten because they're fun, this should be remembered as a warning not to do anything as monumentally stupid ever again.
