10 Awesome Wrestling Insults That Nobody Ever Talks About
2. The Big Boss Man's Perfectly Dumb Delivery
The Big Boss Man was funny because he was so despicable.
Guy cooked dogs. He laughed at people whose "daddies" had died. This wasn't main event material, because it was so witless, but something about the performer's bone-headed, deep south delivery made it soar. It was like Bruce Prichard's impression of Michael Hayes, but even funnier. Boss Man's enthusiasm in the role and the comedic timing he showed somehow made the most repugnant sh*t actually endearing.
Corporation Boss Man is best-known for his poetry recital - "So be brave, and be strong, and get your life back on track - because the old bastard's dead, and he ain't ever comin' back!" - but he also had a wicked way with pronunciation.
Without alienating, per Google, hoo boy, all 114,555,744 people who populate the southern United States, there's just something really funny about a hick accent - and Boss Man was a total hick.
When the British Bulldog returned to WWF screens in 1999, Boss Man was pissed off. He felt that he deserved a crack at the WWF Title. In fact, he felt the Bulldog was stupid to even put himself forward - an opinion he voiced with a glorious, booming "DUMBASS!" which, in that wonderful voice, sounded more like DUURM-EHHS!
So belligerent and unaware of its self-own hypocrisy, this quintessential stupidity was the closest WWE ever got to the winning dumbassery of Homer Simpson.
