Fans have been begging for Roman Reigns to turn heel – the desire for the company’s top face to change alignment predates Reigns, with many still wanting to see a similar switch in John Cena.
WrestleMania aside, Reigns is yet to face the same live audience who vocally booed and heckled him as a face. His dominance behind closed doors has arguably helped the transition. It has given fans a longer period to experience the change, rather than it being at the mercy of an impulsive crowd response.
In terms of online reaction, Reigns is receiving positive feedback he’s not experienced since his Shield days. The expert council of Paul Heyman is also greatly beneficial.
Reign’s in-ring work has a fresh spin and he’s adapted superbly to the dark side. Fans should be clambering to see the new improved Reigns live, combined with Heyman’s ability to cut a promo like nobody else in the business. The duo are a draw on the consistently good SmackDown brand.
Plus, with Reigns and Seth Rollins on the same show, it’s only a matter of time before the two clash in a marquee bout that deserves an audience.
