3. Owen Hart As "The Black Hart"
http://youtu.be/IeVx5ZQT34I When it comes to sympathetic figures in wrestling, few guys could compete with Owen Hart after what happened at Survivor Series 1997. His brother Bret was screwed out of WWE by Vince McMahon, Shawn Michaels and others. That left Owen all alone in the company and it also turned him babyface because the fans were mad with how WWE treated Bret on the way out. It was a very real situation that they turned into an angle to help Owen. Owen attacked Shawn Michaels at the DX PPV in December 1997 and probably should have been booked as the top contender to the World Title held by Michaels. That would have been the smart thing to do. Instead, Undertaker faced Michaels and then it was time for Steve Austin to get a push, so Owen was downgraded to European Title level. After his feud with Triple H led to a WrestleMania 14 match between them, Hunter won. A few weeks later, Owen turned heel again. It was an angle that had so much potential, but it seemed like WWE never really had any plans for it to take off. Others were a higher priority. Plus, Owen was always a guy that was more comfortable as a heel, so that's the role he was in for most of his career. They really could have had something special with "The Black Hart" that was all alone to avenge his family. It's too bad WWE didn't go further with it.
