10 Awesome WWE Gimmicks That Were Dropped Way Too Soon
4. The Undertaker's Ministry Of Darkness
The heel version of The Undertaker in late 1998 was really well done. He had been a face for so long that we forgot how awesome he was as a heel. By early 1999, he started to change. He was aligned with Paul Bearer again (Bearer famously turned heel on him in 1996) and he became this darker figure that led a group called the Ministry of Darkness. The group was officially together as of January 1999 with Undertaker as the leader, Bearer as the manager, The Acolytes (Bradshaw & Faarooq), Viscera, Mideon and the Brood trio consisting of Gangrel, Edge & Christian. They were all guys that Undertaker convinced to work with him. None of them really talked. They just followed his orders. By April 1999, instead of just being a singular heel group they joined with The Corporation, led by Shane McMahon at that time, to become the Corporate Ministry. That led to Vince McMahon revealing that he was in control of things the whole time. It was fine to put all the heels together as a group, but it really hurt the Ministry of Darkness to be with The Corporation. They were supposed to be this dark group that followed the Lord of Darkness, yet they were working with guys who were together because they sold out to rich people? It didn't really make sense. Once they lost their way, the group lost its appeal.
